June 19 – Catoctin Mountains

Great ride near Frederick, MD

from the Frederick Watershed Reservoir through the Catoctin Mountains which will be June 19th (Sun.) The Thurmont Riding Club will be joining us. We will all pack a lunch to enjoy on the trail among the beautiful white blooms of the Mountain Laurel. Terrain on this ride is rocky in some areas so you will need shoes or boots, but there are some areas with nice footing for gaiting. There are some creek crossings and a pond for the horses to drink and cool off in. We will stop at a half way point to eat our lunches so bring halters and leads to tie up horses. These trails are shared with hikers and mountain bikers so your horses will need to be comfortable with both. Parking will be tight so if anyone is able to share a ride with another that would be great in order to fit everyone in comfortably. Please bring clean up tools for the parking area, the Caretakers for the Watershed area work hard to maintain the area for everyone to enjoy. Please RSVP Sheila by June 16th sheilagilbert@comcast.net or 301-898-7921. RTR 10:00am.

Here are the directions: From I 70 you would exit onto Rt 15 as you enter Fredrick, MD. heading North towards Gettysburg, From Rt. 15 just North of Frederick, MD, turn onto Hansonville Rd. and then a quick right onto Mountaindale Rd. heading West toward the mountains. There will be a “Mr. Naturals” garden center at this intersection. Stay on Mountaindale Rd. through Mountaindale, cross over a small bridge (fishing creek) and at the stop sign turn left. This will still be Mountaindale Rd. Just before the paved road ends there will be a small block building on the right. This will be the parking area.
